A high quality (22khz) .wav format. I wanted to give good quality (as average computer sound goes) and long enough (to here the quality and range of angela's voice) clip . After testing this is the smallest file I could accept. It's worth the wait! I'll try to find a shorter piece from another tune.
May I suggest _ if you are useing Netscape or the Latest Mosaic that you open another window and continue while the sound file is downloading. Download a 1 minute clip of Photo Negative SoundMachine, 22khz, converted with Brians Sound Tool. Sound format = .WAV (968K).
On Macintosh's Sound Machine is a great player of .au, .aiff, Sun uLaw, and a other sound file formats. Sound Machine is Freeware or Shareware. One of the many ftp sites where it is available is ftp://ftp.znet.com/zMac/ . This site can be just as busy as many other sites , but not all the time. This site also has all the the basic Mac helper programs all in one place. You can also download right now from the ncsa ftp site ftp://ftp.ncsa.uiuc.edu/Mac/Mosaic/Helpers/sound-machine-21.hqx
Another great sound utility for Macs, is Brians Sound Tool. Freeware you can ftp right here cdrom.com" For those who came in late... Brian's Sound tool is a drag and drop sound coversion utility designed mainly for transfering files between the Macintosh and Windoze. It works under system 6 or 7, supporting the required Apple events under system 7. Output is a mac sound file if the input isn't from a mac, otherwise the output is a Windoze file. Input can be either of those plus a bunch of others like sound blaster .VOC files, Sun/NeXT .au, FSSD (either HCOM or not), 8SVX, and AIFF files.
You can also convert 16 bit sounds to 8 bit, and stereo to mono. These are
the default settings if your mac can't play 16 bit sounds (i.e. doesn't
have sound manager 3.x) or can't play stereo sounds. Enjoy Brian Scott bscott@ironbark.ucnv.edu.au
